Making jewelry comes naturally. I love working with my hands, from making frames to piecing stained glass, to silk-painting, to stringing shells. I'm excited by wearing and making wearable art, and I lose myself at craft fairs and hardware stores, picking up techniques and being amazed.
Because I'm a visual artist, I got a job at IBM, reading blueprints and entering data when mainframes were the bleeding edge of technology. And I started designing on computers just as soon as digital design and drawing applications were created for the Apple IICX. So creating with e-scrap— the wonderful materials you can find inside computers—is a natural path to follow, .
My current jewelry lines follow three themes:
Binary Byzantine: Jewelry made by hand by shaping and drilling computer circuit boards that are plated with complex gold and silver patterns, and embellished with electronic components such as fuses, diodes, resistors and capacitors, bits of hardware, vintage metal and acrylic beads, colorful Czech crystals, vintage pressed glass, pearls, precious and semi-precious stones and more.
The Martian Chronicles — Miniature Martian landscapes in beautiful Red River or Cherry Creek jasper, with stone, crystal, metal and glass beads, and storytelling charms related to space travel. Please note that it is incredibly difficult to find polished jasper with a clear, colorful pattern in a landscape orientation, especially matching stones. I have approximately 30 sets, and they have taken me three years to put together.
The Elements: Fire, Air, Earth, and Water — The focal component is usually a mythical creature, such as a dragon, phoenix, Pegasus, mermaid, hippogryph, sea serpent; or goddess of bears, wolves, bison or gardens, carved in water buffalo bone, or stone, or even brass. I link multiple strands of dense beads in colors related to fire, earth, water, or air, with additional storytelling charms for animals and plants.
